[N]いち location
[IV](placeに)位置する to get located in/situated in
This is used to indicate the location of somewhere and in the form of ている in order to express the current condition of the place. However, ある is mostly used to indicate the same thing in casual situations. While 位置している focuses more on “the location”, ある focuses more on “the existence”.
例 りんごは 机の上に あります。 appropriate
There is an apple on the table.
りんごは 机の上に 位置しています。 unappropriate
An apple is located on the table.
